A psychological minefield that reveals itself slowly, all set on Martha's Vineyard. My first book with this author, and not a bad read.

Adam Blaine returns to his family home after a long absence when his father mysteriously dies after falling or being pushed off a cliff. Lots of family secrets begin to be revealed when police investigate his death and the will leaves nothing to Adam's mother. Adam had a complicated relationship with his father, who was aggressive, condescending, and didn't give his gay brother the time of day. It is eventually revealed that Adam's uncle (and Adam's biological father) killed his father, and that Adam had stayed estranged from his father after he caught him in bed with his girlfriend. Complicated family, intriguing but not many particularly likeable characters.

Have been a fan of RNP for about 25 years and every time I read one of his books, I remember why......keeps you going 'til the very end. Even when you think you have things figured out!

I forgot to write my review after listening to this story. Unfortunately I only recall bits and pieces of the story, which tells me a lot. While I recall enjoying it while first listening, it apparently was not that memorable. I do recall the ending however, without much surprise and some disappointment.

I've got mixed feelings about this book. Patterson is a good writer--he can use language well. The plot seemed interesting, but, while actually reading it, things sort of dragged on and were somewhat predictable. I usually fly through books, especially fiction, but I had to keep going back to this one.

Won free copy from Goodreads.com.

typical patterson novel. A lawyer trying to look out to save his family when his father's death is investigated as murder and unravels dark secrets in the process. Great read. Good writing.
