This is probably my favorite series I've read so far this year! I really loved what he did with the entire series. Hearne bit off a really big story, but completely delivered on everything he promised and more. All of his characters were so alive, and there were a lot of revolutionary ideas packed into the pages of the book. I laughed and cried. I loved every character, and it felt hard saying goodbye to them when the book was over. I don't have the words for how much I liked this series as a whole. The three books really felt like one book that was just published in sections. Highly recommend!

A fitting end for a fun series with surprising twists.

I really prefer this approach to a trilogy about war, where figuring out how to handle grief and emotions matters as much as processing desire for revenge and justice, and the emotional impact of participating is acknowledged and people are allowed by their peers to not be 100% enthusiastic about violence.

But it's not just about war and loss, it's about people and how they survive life changes. I love that ordinary people in this world matter, in most countries, and that there's hints of more positive changes to come - the initial invasion should have impacts on everything, and it's satisfying that it does - and not just in Brynt.

I've liked the magic system the whole way through. I loved finding out more about Zalost and
the "everyone's only heard about me, not heard what I'd say about myself" sneaky self-serving meeting with Zalost and Koesha's return to let him know the results of his plans, and her realizing he wasn't sincere about giving up.

I'm so glad this series exists.

NetGalley ARC

This ended up being a really fun series.  I liked the format of multiple narrators, but with a twist.  This book has the trademark Kevin Hearne humor, but also includes great characters and world building.  Considering the series is three very long books, the action moves quickly and the story is never boring.

It's hard to pick favorite characters because they are all special, but I enjoyed the addition of Penn
Yas Ben Min who is tasked with finding the location and Fanje a member of the resistance in enemy territory.  I think my favorite parts of all the books is those blessed with the 6th Kenning.

A Curse of Krackens does a great job of wrapping up the plot. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys epic fantasy but sometimes need to take a break from the darkness of other series.

I was less than happy with this book. I thought that it left a lot to be desired. Most of the book felt like filler to me and I ended up listening to the last 3 hours on fast-forward....
