challenging emotional funny inspiring reflective slow-paced

As a project whilst I was in Colombia, I tried to take a picture with every single Simón Bolívar statue that I saw. After a few months I found that I had taken 30 pictures and that was without seeking them out, Colombia is obsessed with this man. During this project a friend encouraged me to read this book, as there is no better telling of the last few months of Bolívar's life then Márquez's story. I would honestly say the weight of the story as well as the in depth character exploration makes this novel one of the finest I have ever read. Easily my favourite by Márquez. Many will say to start with One Hundred Years of Solitude, yet this is the honestly a much easier and more coherant introduction of Marquez's writing.

a peculiar story about a colombian general.

if you have not read any books of márquez before you might not expect this book to be written with so much wit and humor. but don’t expect to start a dreadful book about strategies and politics.

this book is about a very interesting and exceptional man who is nearing the days of his death whilst making a journey and sharing his exceedingly and nearly comical spirit with the people he crosses on his voyage.

It's way too slow paced for me but i can understand the appeal for other people.
