Reminded me a little bit of "The 100 year old man who climbed out the window and disappeared". Well it has Swedish old people engaged in improbable crime being chased by frustrated and somewhat dim police and shady gangsters. However it had none of the whimsy, little of the charm and quite a few plot holes. I want to say poorly written but am wondering if it was just poorly translated.

Book 27 of 2025 finished 4/3/25 ⭐️⭐️
Book 1 of the League of Pensioners series
79 year old Martha has had enough, the retirement home she lives in has been rebranded and the residents are being treated like old people! The cut backs and new staff mean that Martha and her friends are being treated ‘worse than people in prison.’ They decide to take matters into their own hands and come up with a plan which will land them in a Stockholm prison and thus getting them the lifestyle they deserve.
My thoughts: Great premise with funny moments but i found the writing too much description and not enough action. I found the book quite boring in places but the plot kept me interested as I wanted to know how it would end.
The story is not realistic at all so you need to go into this with an open mind. The storyline just gets sillier and sillier as it goes on but I’m glad i finished it. I am amazed this is a series of books as I feel like 1 was enough. I won’t be reading more of the series.

DNF @ 12%. Just couldn't get the flow of it and it felt a bit boring.

I’m sure most people would find this more amusing than I did.
This just didn’t fulfill its potential, in my opinion, and I feel like 40% is a fair shake. The characters felt really surface-level, and the situations were more silly than entertaining. The book felt more like a series of loosely connected short stories that weren’t that great — this may be a translation issue, or maybe this one just isn’t for me. There are just a lot of books I’d rather be reading.

Entertaining, but long and predictable. It’s like a Golden Girls movie event or a Leslie Nielsen mini series.
