This was okay. I wanted to like it more than I did. For the most part I enjoyed it but it needed to have way filler in between things to make it more believable in the romance department. As much as I like this series and the mafia spin-off, it is a bit formulaic. This book needed to be longer with more showing and less telling to make the plot/romance believable.
I wish the author would do a better job proofreading/editing. There were a few things that threw me out of the story like the use of the name ‘Joey’ when there are no characters named Joey. Reading it through one more time or using an editor/proofreader would make their books so much better! Also, can we stop using the “I messed up so I am going to run instead of communicate” trope to progress the plot. I’m way over it.

This is book 8 of the marriage mayhem series. It is a quick read like the rest and a good book, but feels a little rushed. books seem to be getting shorter with each one. Similar plot line, there is a marriage, they are forced into it, one party is one of Jake's frat brothers and the other needs to be protected and has some trauma and people after him. They start out not knowing each other and end up in love. So the story itself is good, and I am a fan of her books and usually purchase all of them.
While I love these books and this series, the editing is horrible. I mean at one point she uses a different name from out of the blue for one of the main characters (Joey) during an intimate scene. There is no Joey in any of her books. It is like nobody is even proofreading or editing the authors books lately. I understand that these are self-published, but they should at least be beta-read or read by a proofreader before put out to the public. I like the series and do actually buy these books as opposed to just reading on kindle unlimited and would like to have better editing for the support I am showing the author. So good story, but bad form.

God I love this trope and Aja does it so well! This would have absolutely been a 5star but I just couldn't without a little more time between events. Everything was abrupt and it was like "oh I guess we're here now". I had trouble buying the relationship without seeing the growth in between more dramatic scenes. Anyway, that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book in the least and I definitely recommend this for a Saturday read.
