Final book in the series and we’re ending with Deimos and Dahlia, one of Callie’s friends. This one fell a bit flat compared to the other ones.

I'm prefacing this by saying I'd never read the other books in this series, but it says this book could be read as a standalone. That being said, I have mixed feelings about this book. I thought I'd be okay with this being my first book by this author and I went in with an open mind, but I did find myself a little confused a few times. There were many mentions of "what happened when I was 12" and "what happened back then", or "what he did" for both of our main characters that had some obvious trauma in their history. I don't know if it was stuff that had been in previous books or if it was the author's intention to do a slow reveal but I started to get frustrated when I was more than halfway through the book and still didn't know their trauma or why our hero disliked the heroine so much and why she was afraid of him, what the company he owned and she worked for did, etc, which were all very big points in this story. And then other times, it was like info dump and there were so many names and stories being shared that it was overwhelming.
The story itself was good with lots of dark and kinky spice and an MMC with a filthy mouth. I did also enjoy the mystery they were trying to solve throughout. The plot twists were well written and though I kind of suspected one of them, the others definitely surprised me. That part of the story was solid for me, but the emotion was lacking. There were no words exchanged or even actions that really showed these two characters liked each other for more than sex until 87%. And her friends kind of disappear for a big chunk of the book with no real mention of them. It's all about Deimos.
Things I liked:
Enemies to lovers
All the random pop culture references
The plot twists
The mystery

So Mafia trope adjacent i guess more high school bully/acquaintances to enemies to lovers/stalker/workplace/blackmail power imbalance/past trauma
I love the crazies but his crazy could've been more crazy same as with Hades I was bummed BUT I did love the MMC dry sarcastic humour
Blackmail was rinse & repeat
I kinda figured out the who done it at the beginning.
