This was alright! It was gross, but I mean, you can kind of assume that from the title and cover image. I know it's a REALLY short story, but it needed less focus on the build-up and the pain, and more focus on where the hell these worms were coming from. I really don't like comparing stories in a negative manner, so I try not to do this often, but there was a story in Corpse Cold: New American Folklore that followed a similar plotline but did it SO much better (it's been years and I still get queasy thinking about it) that it made this one feel extra lackluster.

Tooth Worms
By Lor Gislason

Thanks to DarkLit Press for offering a free audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

Lor does it again with this short story that's only about 10 pages/ten minutes long. After reading Inside Out by the same author, I knew I wanted to read more by them!

Tooth Worms did not disappoint, other than me wanting it to be longer!!! This was one of the grossest short stories I have read. I was extremely uncomfortable afterward and will not easily forget this one. Well done!

Giving this 4.25⭐️s. This would be a great baby step into body horror for someone who wants to test the waters. Or for seasoned body horror readers who just want a quick, satisfying read.

Keep up the great work, keep it gross, keep it goopy!

Just when I thought I'd gotten over my aversion to worms from the trauma "The Troop" bestowed upon me, I picked up this horrific short story. I really don't think I'll ever be able to look at, or think about worms with out getting the chills ever again! This is a very short story - I actually listened to the *fantastic* audio narration, it was under 10 minutes! Don't let the length fool you though, Lor Gislason manages to make use of every single word in this one to craft a disturbing body horror story with imagery that will turn your stomach and haunt you forever. Cannot wait to read more by this author.

Received a digital copy free from Dark Lit Press' free horror library. All opinions remain 100% genuine.

Such a short story packed a disturbing punch. I feel like the majority of us humans have had some minor or major fear of the dentist/teeth related concerns, and what Gislason did with their short story Tooth Worms was hone in on that deep rooted fear (haha, get it?) And pull up some awful and disgusting horror.

It was fantastic and I wish it was longer! However it captivated a desperate night of trying to relieve oneself of  a migraine inducing pain (again we've all prodded around a pain that we may be should have left to the professionals) and the intensity of that moment (and the relatability) was perfect.

I need to go back and check out their other works.

The title pretty much sums up this entire 10 page story. Lor Gislason is great at gross body horror stuff. I'll always be interested in reading anything they write. This is available for free at the DarkLit Press official website if anyone wants to check it out.
