There is so much going on in this book, and a lot of the more important things are hidden in between the lines until the end.
Honestly one of the most overt themes, the relationship between the two sisters and everything to unpack there, was the most interesting/personally connected to me, and the cancer felt kind of like the plot point allowing that relationship to develop, rather than a major theme.
I found Jayne uncomfortable to read beyond just the bratty behavior without really knowing why, until the last chapters, which revealed a lot. Nothing in the first half prepared me to sob like that through those last chapters, so that was… wow. The ending really packs a punch.
I really liked how everything ended, it felt positive and hopeful and it was what I needed from these characters.

I'm glad I read this! I don't usually read fiction but this was an entertaining and well-written read. The characters are all pretty unlikeable and there was kind of too much going on (eating disorders, cancer, cheating, mental illness, parental neglect) to make any of it really impactful to me, but I like the drama.

2/5 - Felt like an incomplete story.
Not a fan. Only liked Patrick. Wished I could see him more.
I don’t like how the book hid things until the end. I don’t like the protagonist or her sister. I also don’t understand why the book is called ‘Yolk.’
Won’t read again.

The end hit hard. I cried during the last hour almost non-stop.
