George R.R. Martin feeds your Game of Thrones novel obsession with the second book in the series - A Clash of Kings. Perfect reading for election time, this book shows the chaos, pain, death and ambition of upstarts, pretenders, legitimate heirs and otherwise as they all clash for supremacy. As hundreds and thousands suffer and die from warfare in pursuit of the Iron Throne you see the chess like moves that strengthen and weaken, showing nobility, raw ambition and opportunism. Necessary reading for those sucked into the violent and mysterious world of the seven kingdoms, of Westeros and the Dothraki, of Valyrian steel and dragons, and of the Iron Throne.

description

This was expression while reading this book. It was painful, and I honestly thought of leaving it. The only reason I stayed with it (and keep going with the series) is for the three or four characters I enjoy. I thought the first one was slow and grating but oh how naive I was...

So what was the problem? It was slow with very little happening, or on the off chance a plot-moving event occurred it was rushed with only one person's POV. Overall, Martin is mediocre writer and I'm constantly wondering if this is supposed to be realistic medieval history or fantasy since he seems to vary between them. Many problems I had with the first are present in this book as well. Most of the characters are not particularly likeable, Jon Snow Catelyn so their sections are unbearable to plow through. Also tons of rape in this one, like it felt as if rape was mentioned in every single chapter. And it's never really pointing out that rape is terrible and shouldn't be done, no instead George R.R. Martin acts likes it's totally normal and okay. Before anyone tries to tell me that's what happened back then and it was accepted you can fuck off because this is a universe where dragons and three-eyed crows exist, rape didn't have to be there.

I do love Sansa, Tyrion, and DAENERYS; these characters are the reason I keep going and I honestly enjoyed their parts. Overall, the series are okay and I can see why the show would be better popular.

Really great book! Really great book series! Not going to say too much because I don't want to ruin it!

"Muito gostam de prometer cabeças, estes homens que querem ser reis". Tyrion e Catelyn são absolutamente as estrelas deste volume, sobretudo Tyrion e as suas maquinações brilhantemente escritas (e descritas) por George R. R. Martin. A trama termina num ponto de tensão brutal. Vou para o próximo volume. Não dá para parar de ler.

I was really on the fence with this series. I first heard about the television show, and after reading rave review after rave review, finally decided to watch it. And in about three days I had finished all of the first season and couldn't wait to read the first book. After finishing the first book, I ran out and bought the box set for the series.

And I'm glad I did.

A Clash of Kings is an amazing sequel to The Game of Thrones, introducing new characters and continuing the story of past favourites. We also get to see more of the world that George R. R. Martin has created by going beyond the Wall, exploring different castles, and traveling with the Dothraki. I also really enjoy the fact that Martin manages to make characters sympathetic, even if you're not cheering for their team (or perhaps king would be more appropriate).

My only complaint is that the storyline of some of the characters seemed to drag on longer than necessary. For example, not much really happens with Daenerys, so her chapters could've been fewer by maybe skimping on some of the unnecessary descriptions and putting her events in less chapters.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and can't wait to read the third in the series.
