I started giving this series a notice since Dan's book, now it's time for his bestie Vince to fall for his self proclaimed "nemesis"
Yes if:
You love this series and want MORE.
The tension between Vince and Crossbody is delicious.
No if:
Heavy kink (degradation/sub) without prior discussion and aftercare, at first. (Consent is enthusiastic throughout)

False Comeback is the fourth book in Lily Mayne's Goliaths of Wrestling series. Personally, I think this series is best enjoyed in order. Here's what you expect from High Lord Crossbody and Vince "Rolling Rimmer" Burke:
💛 MM monster romance in a contemporary setting
💛 First person dual point of view
💛 Guaranteed happily ever after
💛 Fae x Ghoul romance
💛 Enemies to lovers, hate sex
💛 Forbidden and secret romance
💛 Praise and degradation
As always, ensure you review the content and trigger warnings to decide if this book is right for you. Note that this list of warnings and triggers may be incomplete. Please take care of yourself while reading.Explicit content; alcohol consumption; main characters with difficult childhoods, comprising one with an emotionally unavailable and manipulative mother, and the other with a distant and irresponsible mother and absent father (both characters struggle with these relationships); incubus character who uses religion in a blasphemous way for his wrestling persona; mentions of Frank and Beans.
This series is just so much fun! I've read all of the books so far, and I never think the next one will quite measure up and of course, it always does. One of the best things about this series is how fun and light-hearted it is. I'm always laughing while reading! I also enjoy the monster romance in a contemporary setting, with the wrestling concept a breath of fresh air. I was really looking forward to Vince and Crossbody's story, especially after their animosity seemed to grow through books one to three and although I wasn't expecting their story to go the way it did, I ended up loving them both by the end of it.
Lily Mayne did a fantastic job executing the enemies to lovers and hate sex dynamics in False Comeback. I really enjoyed the back and forth between Crossbody and Vince. There was a lot of push and pull and interconnected emotions. As they transitioned from enemies to lovers, it was pretty much apparent to everyone but them as their story continued. The spice in this book was great, and I enjoyed the praise and degradation that Lily added to Vince and Crossbody's story. We don't know Crossbody very well in the first three books as he comes across so aloof, but their dynamics suited them perfectly. I did think this book got off to a slightly slow start in the first quarter, but I certainly didn't want to put it down once the pace picked up after that first 25 percent. I enjoyed catching up with all the colourful personalities at Goliaths, and I can't wait to learn more about the new wrestlers Holt has added to his roster. As always, I'm looking forward to the next instalment (which we got a little teaser of towards the end of False Comeback).
I highly recommend this series if you're looking for something light and funny to balance out your TBR. It would also be a great introduction to the monster romance genre, as it takes place in a contemporary setting.

I remember talking to Lily when Cheap Heat was about to be released and she mentioned that she loved them all so far but the fourth book was her absolute favorite and I TOTALLY GET WHY.
I was reading this while moving and kept getting so angry that packing and moving things was getting in the way of reading what these two were going through!
I fucking LOVED the enemies to lovers part, especially when it's all based off misconceptions and how someone may put up a total and complete front, when that's not who they are at all. I loved the degradation and humiliation kinks here and they were done peeeeeeeerfectly. Because holy hell the spice was fucking SPICY. If you've read Lily, you know what to expect but whew. WHEW. This was definitely kicked up a notch and it makes sense why as these two think they're just burning off their cravings for each other. lol. Silly boys.
I was CACKLING at the incubus manning the hotel counter and was so hoping we'd see more of him and I swear Lily must have BEEN READING MY MIND BECAUSE?!!?!? Omggggggggg.
Thank you so much Lily for the advanced copy and I cannot wait to see how the next to end up together!
