Harari presents a thorough discussion of how technology will change the way that the human species will live. All aspects of life are affected - the working as well a the home environment. Technology and automation will allow us to accomplish a lot more, away from routine tasks which can be done better by machines. Note that collection and interpretation of data has become very sophisticated and affect many aspects of life, including how people will interact as well as how companies or larger organization will learn about and approach individual. One weakness of the book is that it could have used another round of editing to remove repetition. Harari always presents a deep-dive of examples and references to statements and conclusions/generalities that he makes. Currently the chapters are extremely long, Perhaps subdividing the chapters more and removing repetition will make the text more readable. An inordinate amount of time is spent describing problems caused by religion and the church, again with a lot of detail and supporting information. The reader is more interested in the results of technology and already feels that the organized religion has been a problem. Harari doesn't have to devote so much time to preach to the choir. Perhaps more forecasting looking farther ahead would be welcomed by the reader (this is covered in Harari's later book, 21 Lesson for the 21st Century).

Σε μεγάλη φόρμα και με κεκτημένη ταχύτητα από το Sapiens, ο Harari συνεχίζει στο ίδιο τροπάρι (δε μας χάλασε) δείχνοντας το (πιθανό) σχήμα των πραγμάτων που θα έρθουν. Και όσο κι αν στεναχωρεί φασίστες, κομμουνιστές και φιλελεύθερους, ίσως να έχει δίκιο και το μέλλον να είναι νταταϊστικό. Μπορεί νια διαφωνήσει κανείς, μπορεί να πει ότι η λύση δεν είναι να δώσουμε όλα τα δεδομένα μας (από το πότε βήξαμε τελευταία φορά μέχρι την ελαστικότητα του σφιγκτήρα μας κι από το τι προτιμάμε για πρωινό μέχρι τους λογαριασμούς τραπέζης μας) στη Google να τα κάνει ό,τι θέλει, αλλά ο Yuval καταθέτει τα επιχειρήματά του και ο γόνιμος διάλογος δεν έβλαψε ποτέ.

Εν ολίγοις, το βιβλίο πραγματεύεται το τέλος του ανθρωπισμού όπως αυτός εκφράστηκε από τις τρεις κλασικές μορφές διάρθρωσης της εξουσίας/κοινωνίας (για τον 20ο αιώνα: φασισμός, κομμουνισμός, φιλελευθερισμός + τις σχετικές τους αδυναμίες στη διαχείριση πληροφορίας + τις αναλογικά συνεπαγόμενες αστοχίες) και τη μετάβαση στο νταταϊσμό, το θάνατο του σάπιενς (είμαστε τα μαμούθ του 2000μΧ) την ανάδυση της μη βιολογικής νόησης (με ή χωρίς συνείδηση) και την πολύ πιθανή αντικατάσταση ή υποκατάστασή μας από... αυτό μένει να το δούμε.

Δεν είμαστε πια το κέντρο του σύμπαντος και πλέον έχουν δημιουργθεί δομές που επιτρέπουν ταχύτερη εισροή δεδομένων από το φτωχό εναμισόκιλο φαιάς ουσίας που έχουμε... και επειδή η πληροφορία και η ταχύτητα μετάδοσης και απορρόφησής της (σύμφωνα με το Harari) είναι το μέλλον, είμαστε πολύ πιο τριχωτοί, χαυλιοδοντοφόροι και με προβοσκίδα απ' όσο νομίζαμε.

Κάποια συμπεράσματα σε κερδίζουν αμέσα, κάποια σε τρομάζουν και κάποια τα βρίσκεις ίσως αφελή και παρατραβηγμένα, αλλά όλα τα ενδεχόμενα είναι ανοιχτά και το μέλλον είναι intra portas... Κοντός ψαλμός... ;)

Υ.Γ. Αμφιταλαντεύtηκα μεταξύ 4 και 5 αστεριών, αλλά κατέληξκα στα 4 γιατί... ΜΕΝΕΙ ΝΑ ΔΟΥΜΕ ΤΙ ΘΑ ΕΠΑΛΗΘΕΥΘΕΙ και αν αρκεί η προφητεία αφεαυτής για να (μην) επαληθευθεί.

There is much here that is thought provoking, I do not know if I can fairly rate or review this book on just one quick listen (to the audiobook)...

Interesting arguments, but it felt like he spent too long going over his arguments from Sapiens and i would’ve liked to hear more about how his assessments and conclusions about past behavior will impact the future.
