This was my first read of Brené Brown and I'm so excited to read more of her work! Well written, practical and full of personality. I see she has a Neflix special coming out too!

This is a book I was assigned to read at work. Brené Brown is very well-known for talking about common problems in workplaces. A big portion of the book focuses on the importance of being vulnerable in work settings and how to engage with that. I really enjoyed it at first but definitely felt like it stretched on for too long and by the end was pretty done lol. I think this book would be extremely useful to people stuck in corporate/traditional capitalistic mindsets and has a lot of really helpful data, suggestions, strategies, etc. For someone like me who is much more well-versed in these topics, I didn’t get a tremendous amount out of it but there were definitely some nuggets that I found useful/interesting. A great resource overall but not something I’d necessarily feel is required for folks who run in the kinds of circles I do/do the kind of work I do who, more likely than not, already know much of it already.

I cant get over the section on page 133 where she's recounting something that Susan Mann says about being kind when firing someone and she says "When you're delivering the news, be kind. Be clear. Be respectful. Be generous. Can you let the person resign rather than be fired?" and that is just so underhanded and out of touch to me. It really colored the entire rest of the book to me and made me thing that Brene Brown is not on the ground floor of employees and doesn't understand anyone besides CEOs.
If you have to fire someone, I recognize the need not to be rude but saying it might be nicer to have them quit instead of be fired is CRAZY to me. You do realize that people are not entitled to unemployment or severance if they quit rather than be fired right?
