Wow was that depressing. I cried which I wasn’t really expecting, but I really got to know the characters and felt for them. I do have to say I thought it was weird how it was written and how Claudia was written, but it makes sense when a certain reveal happens. This is such an important story, but very dark. I also really like Claudia as a main character and how strong she was. I really enjoyed the friendships and the family and how great of support system Claudia had. I do have to say it was also kind of confusing how it was written because I kept forgetting what timeline we were in.

A beautiful, emotional read. The writing is so captivating and authentic to a 13 year old’s voice. Highly recommend checking the trigger warnings in advance before deciding to read.

I really enjoyed this book and I definitely recommend reading. My one criticism is that the book jumps around a lot and it’s hard to understand what happened when. The chapter titles seem easy to understand — “The Before”, “The After”,  “One year before the before”— but I still struggled to figure out where it really happened in time. Now that I have finished, I’m sure I’d understand better on a reread!

I truly was not expecting the huge twist at the end. This book deals with such a hard subject and is actually based off a real case. Tiffany D. Jackson handled this difficult subject in such a graceful way. The whole book Claudia is convinced something happened to Monday, but no one will listen. Claudia even goes to the police, but they won’t do anything since she’s not Monday’s parent. The school won’t listen, her parents are convinced everything’s fine, but Claudia feels something is wrong.

I wont say more than that so as not to spoil. All I will say is please read this book!

*Also yes I was given an ARC back in fall 2017 and then never read it because of college 😂 Thanks, Ang for setting up the buddy read!*

This book was so good I finished it in a day! I did get a bit tired of
Claudia’s constant lack of self esteem with her inability to read. She seemed reasonable enough so I wanted to constantly jump into the book and tell her it’s okay to ask for help despite what a few bullies say! I know what it’s like to be that age, but it got tiresome chapter after chapter. Additionally, it was a bit frustrating when she didn’t speak up about her friend missing throughout the story because she had no confidence in herself.
Overall, this book has a gripping plot and makes you forgive the flawed, sometimes annoying characters. It’s truly a wonderful story of friendship that becomes sisterhood.
