Fantastic read!

Two toddlers have been abducted - one was taken from her own home in broad daylight and the other was taken from a car in a supermarket car park while his mum popped in to collect her dry cleaning. DI Patrick Lennon is the lead detective on the case. Now a third chid has been taken. Frankie Phillips was being babysat by her 15 year old half sister Alice while her parents went out for a meal. There are no leads to why these three children have been taken and then a body is found. A fantastic read from page one.

From the Cradle is intense right from the opening chapter. We often read a crime novel where a lead police officer has a troubled private life but l think that Patrick Lennon must be very near the top of the list for having the most difficult and unusual situation.
Along with Carmella, Winkler and Suzanne he is trying to find three young missing children. Very much aware that time is against them they are desperate to find a link and reunite the children with their frantic parents. Not all the team are working together. Winkler is not a team player and resents Lennon being in charge of the investigation. Lennon himself is struggling to stay in control. His private life is very close to the investigation and at times he questions his ability.
I had no idea which way the tale was going to go. There were a lot of twists throughout, especially in the final third, maybe if I've any gripe, a few too many. But it didn't ruin the book at all.
I would love to know how writing a book as a joint project works. I have read books by Mark Edwards before but I've never read any of the books that also feature Louise Voss. I was quite impressed and I am happy that I have the second book in the Patrick Lennon series to read. Incidentally the second novel The Blissfully Dead is released today.

I really enjoyed this book. The subject matter isn't one of the nicest to read about especially as a parent but I was gripped from start to finish. There are certainly some twists in there and the end was really fast paced. Loved it.

Young children are stolen. From their houses, their cars or even from their own beds... When Helen and Sean return home they find their babysitting older daughter passed out on the couch and their three year old daughter Frankie missing. Time seems to be running out.

I've to admit I'd never heard of Louise Voss or Mark Edwards before, but when I saw this book, it sounded interesting enough. I used to read a lot of British detectives a few years back, but needed a sabbatical since I think I might have read a bit too many in too short a time. I think that break is over now, because I almost felt like I missed reading them...

From the cradle is a very decent British detective. It's not a ground breaking new concept, but if you happen to enjoy it, you'll probably like this novel. I got the idea this is a standalone novel, or at the very least it can be perfectly read without any prior knowledge of the characters and without feeling lost. The story kept me guessing for quite some time, the resolution in the end was a bit too much perhaps for me, but it was not a really big problem for me. I would pick up another book written by this duo and certainly give it a try!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Maybe a 3.5. It was good and entertaining, but also very forgettable.

BRO. this book is weird. the depiction of teenagers and gangsters is ridiculous and very stereotypical. that made very hard to enjoy some of the chapters. (i read it in german so maybe the translation was just bad?)
i gave it three stars because the twists were really good! the ending genuinely surprised me. there is one part i don't understand at all, i don't know what that specific information did for the story except make things EVEN WEIRDER.
