Having seen the movie before the book, I went in knowing the story. The first half of the book was quite interesting, but once they got into the later trials I found myself getting bored. It was a quick read, and I don't think it was a waste of time, especially since it was for school. If you do see the movie, I recommend also reading this book. Davis did a thorough investigation, and while it's was at some points biased towards the "honorable Bertrande" (a character who I have grown fond of also), Davis did a good job telling this tale.

Great and a very quick read. Though about one of the greatest impostors ever to walk the earth, it's also about life in southern France at the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.

Fascinating! A book by a historian, based on two current accounts as well as her own research, this tells the story of Martin Guerre, who abandoned his wife, then returned - and then was put on trial for being an impostor and sentenced when the actual Martin Guerre returned for real. Compelling to read the insights into this cast of characters (real people! who've actually lived!) and their times and cirumstances.
