୨ৎ : “are you sure that’s not just a first-love thing?” “no, baby. it’s a last love thing.”

‘we’re all a bunch of transplants from other places who found a home in the windy city…and with each other.’

i am not okay that this series has ended. but i’m so glad to see rio and everyone get their happy endings. this series has been so special to me.

i loved seeing rio and hallie get back together and seeing how much hallie cared for him and showed that consistently and vice versa.

i cried so much in the epilogue hearing how rio talked about his friends.

anyway i am not okay and i need a spin off NOW.

a second chance romance book made abbie overly emotional? okay fork found in kitchen?

safety :
- safe, no cheating
- each other's first everything and both celibate during seperation
- owd : Rio is known by everyone and their mother that he goes on alot of dates and always looking for a single girl to go on a date with, but it never leads anywhere
owd1 : the book starts with him on a 2nd date with an influencer who asked him out, she wanted to hook up but he wasn't interested, the date didn't bother me except the part where he tried to use the song thing he had with Hallie with ow i was like eww
ow2: his friend tried to hook him up with ow at a bar who wasx very touchy and hallie witnessed it
om: her boss set her up on a date with a married man without her knowledge and she left the minute she realized.

when the book started i was terrified of what Hallie might have done to Rio to warrant him avoiding her at all cost especially when he was trying to go against his nature to be a dick to her at times.
but that didn't last long before he forgot that he was supposed to hate her and decided to get her back and was actually so whipped.
then we find out out the reason he " hated her " and the reason they broke up was that Hallie knew that his dad was having an affaire and she didn't tell him and his mom. so i was like okay ouch that can be seen as a betrayal i knew if i were him i'd be hurt too so i was still team Rio.
THEN we find out that the reason she didn't tell him was because it was around the time her dad got diagnosed with cancer and she was young and confused and in a bad situation and i was actually very upset with Rio. he didnt try to talk to her , didn't ask why she didn't tell them he just up and cut complet contact. poor Hallie had to fend for her self and care for her dad ALONE, indebted and worn out. i was so angry at her brother who's the only one i hate more than Rio's mom. that assface spent their entire teenage years keeping her from boys only to abandon her and their dad at their lowest and living his best life away while his sister is struggling . i bawled my eyes out when she was telling Rio all the shit her and her dad's been through alone
THEN we find out that the woman that Rio's dad cheated with was HALLIE's MOM, and the reason Hallie didn't tell on them was because she indirectly threatened her with her dead's health. so basically hallie went through the same thing Rio had, and worst since her dad was sick. and i lost respect for Rio... he has loved her and been bestfriends with her for 8 years yet did not think to ask her why she didn't tell him ? he spent 6 years avoiding her and trying to get over by going on endless dates yet never once stopped to think that maybe he wronged her ?that he let his mom manipulate his grown ass to be her emotional crutch ?
I was like okay there is definitely going to be a scene where he stands up against his mom and tells her that he will not choose between her and Hallie ( cuz he did choose her over Hallie once), but he didn't and he continued to just drop the subjected whenever his mom refused to listen and it gave the impression that he woulld 100% cower and go with his mom again. BUT Hallie had to be the bigger person AGAIN and went to have a talk with his mom and told her everything, i really didnt like how Hallie kept telling them to not apologize to her WHEN THEY OWED HER THE BIGGEST APOLOGY for villainizing her like that when she went through triple the shit they went through . her and her dad deserved the world.

i ranted alot be cause Rio being a mommy's boy disappointed be but i promise i didn't hate the book i actually really enjoyed it.
Rio was very sweet and supportive towards her and even immidiately possessive, i hated that he went on so many dates and actively tried to replace her and would have if his dates weren't materialistic and were after him for fame while she never tried to move on nor date.
and for once i liked Zanders he was such a good friend and i felt like his character matured. the girls pissed me off though, they were so noisy and dramatic
