The Bad Boy Rule

Maren Moore

4.09 AVERAGE

My very first book by @authormarenmoore and boy did I love it. The perfect bad boy – one of my favourite tropes btw – meets the perfect golden girl who manages to capture his eyes first and his heart next. The one both of them are not supposed to fall for, but they inevitably do.

I loved the way Lennon was fighting to find her true self, the one who was not the obedient daughter of a wealthy family.

Saint… what can I say about him? I did not expect him to be like that. His backstory and the way he told it to Lennon kinda broke my heart- everything he went through and everything he had to endure is a testament to his character and attitude.

I’ll definitely keep on reading Maren’s books. This one hooked me from the beginning, with the character’s banter, obvious connection and attraction.

Thank you @valentine_pr_ for an arc of the book, all opinions are my own.

If you love college hockey romance, revenge, opposites attract, loath to love, fake dating, and slow burn, then run don’t walk and grab this book!

I loved this book! The storyline and character development were written wonderfully. I loved that we got to learn about his past and why things happened. It was the perfect mixture of plot and spice. Between the banter, the chemistry and the passionate moments between Lennon and Saint will have you swooning. 🥵I loved watching these two let down their walls and open themselves up to each other and fall in love. They were a perfect match.

Saint Devereux has a reputation of being a bad boy, but no one knows about his broken past. Lennon Rousseau is the ultimate good girl. When their paths cross they could not be more opposite. However, Lennon could use Saint to get her parents off her back. And Saint would love to tanish the perfect golden girl as revenge against her dad. The plan is flawless since Saint doesn’t do relationships and Lennon knows never to fall for the bad boy.

There is just something about Maren Moore’s universe that I love. I love love, love a bad boy and a good girl; throw in fake dating and “teach me” moments and I am hooked. Sometimes I’m hesitant when I see that it’s a college romance. I feel like I’m too far removed from college or it’s weird since I also teach at a college level, but once I dive into Maren’s stories, that’s no longer a factor. The characters that she writes just feel different than other college romance stories.  This isn’t only the bad boy falling for the good girl. It’s the good girl coming out of her shell on her own terms and refusing to live for other people.

many thanks to the author and valentine pr for this arc

this one started slow for me. i didn't particularly care for Saint and while i know that was the point, it was almost too much. however i am so glad i stuck with it, Saint and Lennon grew on me like a weed. i loved their individual growth. they were truly exactly what the other needed and it was great to see the walls come down and the feelings come out.

now the romance aspect, SO GOOD. i feared for the third act breakup but i'm so glad we got communication instead. the spice was so well done and the set up for the next book made me giggle. i really enjoyed this as the start to a new series.

Omg this book *like Saint* had me in a chokehold!! 😉

Miss Maren when did you put in this book because I ATE it up in less than 24 hours!

Lennon is a former figure skater who has always been a good girl.
Saint is a bad boy through and through.
When they end up sharing rink time together they hate each other from minute one. When Saint realized who Lennon’s father is he hatched a plan to use her for his revenge. Lennon wants to break free of her fathers hold, so she proposes they fake date to get him to back off.

Literally no notes it was amazing and one of those books you wish you could read for the first time again 😍.

At first, this book seemed like your typical bad boy-good girl story, BUT I loved that Maren Moore added some major twists to the Saint & Lennon's plot, making it even more interesting. Plus, these two characters have personal stories that I loved, broke my heart at times, and made me love them even more as I read on.

Lennon is our good girl, someone who has always done what her parents expect of her, but who carries a lot of pressure on her shoulders to be the perfect daughter and continue to live up to her family's expectations. BUT Lennon is much more than that, she has a rebellious side that I LOVED getting to know, especially when it comes to recovering that part of herself that she lost over the years trying to please the people around her: I love that she fights to recover her passion for figure skating, that, when Maren addresses the subject of Lennon's V, it gives me a different twist to what I'm used to in this type of stories and I especially loved reading her giving a new meaning to that promise ring that was so important to her too.

Saint was a bit complicated at first -I have to say that I didn't like his attitude when I read him in the first pages and that made me have my reservations about his character and I thought I would completely hate him, fortunately that changed the more I read this character. His personal story broke my heart, but I also really loved how well the author portrayed the situations and emotions that victims of domestic violence go through. I think it was important to read Saint having complex feelings about his dad, the situation he and his mom are going through, and the decisions she keeps making. Also, that moment of vulnerability he shares with Lennon toward the end of the book was my favorite because it's where we see the real Saint. I also loved discovering the connection between these characters' families through Saint's eyes, his plan for revenge, and the unexpected, original, and wonderful twist that Maren gave to this part of the book. Another aspect I loved about this character (and that I would have loved to see more of) was the "friendship" that Bennett and Tyler try to form with Saint and the way he starts to give in.

I really liked the love story in The Bad Boy Rule, Lennon & Saint meet because there is a mistake in their college schedules and they have to share time on the ice, however, they are both so different that they hate each other immediately and I LOVED reading their arguments, the way they both intentionally manage to get on each other's nerves and how their chemistry and attraction are more than evident from the beginning. Also, I LOVED that Maren gave me the fake dating element that I love reading so much, especially because it let me see Lennon's most daring, playful and fun side, I also really enjoyed reading these two being vulnerable with each other, Lennon seeing Saint's most real side, and him making important, brave decisions that gave the story a VERY good turn.
