Wow…just wow. This might be my favorite Maren book yet! This was so so good for me.
Tropes:
🏒 Hockey Player x Ice Skater
🏒 College Romance
🏒 Fake Dating
🏒 Grumpy x Sunshine
🏒 Bad Boy x Good Girl
You can feel the emotion ooze out of Saint and Lennon’s story. They both have their battles at home, and this unlikely pair decide to fake date to get what they both want. The mutual falling was so delicious. There were so many feet kicking times in this book. I loved both of these characters, and I especially loved when they decided to take matters into their own hands. The Saint in the rain scene…one of my most favorite moments in my book reading history.

Thank you, Maren and VPR, for sending me a copy of this book!

WARNING: Do not start this book until you have some time to devote to it because I can attest, it grabs your complete attention from the very first page. I devoured this story, and from the banter to the spice to the emotional heart of it, I was completely enthralled. Saint Deveraux and Lennon Rousseau have an incredible story from start to finish. The Bad Boy Rule is the first book in the Hellcats Hockey series by Maren Moore. It is a standalone set in her beloved Orleans University world.
These characters have my heart. They are complicated and messy and passionate in all the ways I love. I loved Lennon’s journey of empowerment and taking back her choices for her own life. Saint broke my heart and then stole it completely. His path to being emotionally vulnerable and opening up to Lennon was so well written. And I mean really, who can resist a tattooed bad boy with a filthy mouth who loves to go downtown?? These two have to go through it to get their HEA, but what a ride!
Thank you so much to Valentine PR and Maren Moore for the ARC opportunity!

Author- Maren Moore
Series- Hell Cats Hockey Book #1
Rating- 3.75 Stars out of 5
Genres- Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance
Tropes- Enemies to Lovers, Hockey Player x Ice Skater, Rich Girl x “Wrong Side of the Tracks” Boy, Fake Dating, Revenge, Forced Proximity
Main Characters- Lennon and Saint
Spice Level- 2.5/5
HEA
For this book being set between two college students there was some animosity between Lennon and Saint. Right off the bat these two made some BIG assumptions about the other and it all started because Saint is generally grumpy/bad tempered. I felt like the jabs they both were taking in the beginning of the book were sometimes a little too for but it really went to selling that these two people DO NOT enjoy each other's company. So when started they sale dating an being nicer to one another, getting to know each other, they had a spark of connection that was enjoyable to read.
Overall I thought The Bad Boy Rule was an enjoyable need not the best book I've head but not the worst by a long shot. I think my main complaint was I felt the beginning was a bit slow but the ending just seemed rushed. I just felt like I blinked and everything was resolved and the book was over. Everything was wrapped up, there weren't any loose ends, but I just waited certain parts to be a bit more fleshed out.

The Bad Boy Rule was my first book by Maren Moore, but it definitely won’t be my last. I feel like I need to go back and read all of the Orleans University books now! It was such a good time, and that is all due to Saint Devereaux. He’s a tattooed, motorcycle riding, hockey playing, bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, but women love him. Every girl at Orleans University has either been with him or is trying to get with him, in spite of his grumpy attitude and reputation as a total player. He’s an absolute asshole, has a filthy mouth, is wildly possessive, and is so broody and damaged that he can barely function. I adore him.
Saint and Lennon initially can’t stand each other, but he agrees to fake date her to make her dad mad. They’re not supposed to care about each other, but they fall hard and fast, and it was so swoony to watch Saint catch feelings and try to learn how to love someone and be in a relationship. My heart hurt for him for everything he went through because of his dad, and I loved how Lennon protected him and showed up for him when no one had ever done that before.
I had a great time with this one, and hope there are more books about the Hellcats hockey team in the future.
Thank you to Valentine PR and Maren Moore for the ARC.

When I saw that Maren Moore was writing a true bad boy, I was alllllll the way intrigued, and let me tell y'all, SAINT DEVEREAUX is 100% bad boy & I LOVE HIM!
*cue TayTay's I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)*
It has taken me a few days to get my thoughts together, and this will still probably come across as rambling, but I cannot stop thinking about this book or these characters! Maren has gone above and beyond with them & I am truly OBSESSSSSSEEEEEDDDDD!
Saint & Lennon are a true enemies to lovers, especially on Saint's part when he finds out who Lennon's family is. With that trope, hockey, a sprinkle of forced proximity, a splash of fake dating, & then add in that he is a broken boy; my heart was a GONER! GONER Y'ALL! And his filthy mouth??? That loves to EAT (like, LOVES TO EAT)??? GONER, ABSOLUTE GONER! I was sweating okay!! If that ice rink/penalty box could talk....BLESS IT!
Their banter and level of snark is unmatched, Lennon is sass personified, and Saint is a total a**hole who has a soft spot (eventually) for Lennon. When he breaks for her & really lets her in, I SOBBED! SOBBED Y'ALL!! This man has my whole heart....well, he had to leave a little slice for Reese because I still love him (Catching Feelings, read it!), but he took majority of it.
I don't want to give everything away, but you should 10000% read this one! It is absolutely one of my favorite reads not just of the year, but all time!

I absolutely LOVED this book. This was my first book by Maren and I am excited to read more from her. I am a sucker for a good hockey romance and they surpassed my expectations for one. I slipped, tripped, and fell all the way in love with Saint Devereaux.
What to say about Saint Devereaux. Well, he is THE notorious bad boy player, who is cocky but can back it up, left winger for the Hellcats Hockey Club. This book is the love story of Saint and he "Golden Girl" Lennon Rousseau, who is an innocent, untouched, loyal daddy's girl with the wool pulled over her eyes.
Saint has his walls built up high and his heart blackened by his home life. His father is no good. He is a drunk and a drug addict who not only abuses him but his mother. But Saint isn't that tiny twelve year old anymore and will do whatever it takes to protect what/who he loves. Saint finds quiet and solace on the ice. Hockey is his safe space and does whatever he can to be the best at it.
Figure Skating was that for Lennon. It was the one place that was her own and she loved it. Until her father demanded that she give it up and be the good little "trophy wife" that was expected of her. She decides to take her life back, by secretly going to the ice rink and arranging an hour of skating to get back feeling like herself again. Unfortunately, there was an error in the scheduling and the rink just so happened to be double booked, and she now has to share the rink with Saint.
The moment their eyes connect, sparks flicker. They both can't stand each other and are always insulting and taunting the other person. But they are also instantly drawn to the other even though they fight it tooth and nail.
“What's your name? So I can be sure to tell Summer that I'd rather choke and die than ever share the ice with you again."
I don't know what it is about a guy that is a complete jerk because he is scared to be vulnerable, but I just eat it up every time. I was immediately hooked on their chemistry and their lust/hate for each other. How they reacted to their remarks just revved the other one up. The looks, the stolen touches, the dirty dirty mouth of Saint made me so giddy throughout the whole book.
"Don't forget, Golden Girl, that you're mine to kiss... touch.. whatever I want. Even if it's just for show."
The turning point for both Lennon and Saint came from her father. He blind-sided her when he invited her cheating ex-boyfriend to a gala event and wants her to "forgive" him and start things up again. This is when she is starts to see that her life isn't what it looks like from the outside. So, she cooks up a plan with her bestie Maisie, to start a "just for fun/fake" relationship with the bad boy as a big "screw you" to her father. Well, Maisie suggests that she should ask Saint, since there was an obvious attraction from the start.
Saint doesn't do relationships, he is a one and done kinda guy, but agrees to Lennon's proposal for two reasons.
- 1. To dirty up the "Golden Girl"
-2. To take revenge on her father
(two birds one stone)
But that is easier said than done, when he slowly starts to realize that Lennon is the ONLY Girl that ever really made him feel anything. And she is the ONLY girl he want to devour more than just once. And that filthy mouth of his, well it ignite a fire inside Lennon.
"There's a possessive place inside me that's preening with the fact that I'll be taking all of her firsts. That no one on this planet will have them.
It's mine.
She's mine."
This book was all consuming in so many ways. They hate, they connect, they love. I was so thankful that Maren didn't have a third-act breakup with these two. She showed that if you truly love someone, you don't just leave with things get hard. You don't leave when the person you love makes a mistake.
"When you love someone, you don't leave."
This will definitely be a book that I will come back to over and over again....85% for Saint's dirty mouth!!

I have been waiting for this book to come out and truly worth the wait. I had literal tears in parts of this book and also smiling from cheek to cheek.
Saint Devereaux has become one of my favorite mmcs of this author which is saying something because has some great characters.
Lennon Rousseau is just a wonderful fmc who is tired of trying to be the perfect girl and daughter. When she finds herself around Saint, fire happens. They both get under the others skin and she can't stand him. But you know what they say about hate and....
Saint has revenge on his mind and just likes pushing her buttons. But will the hockey player be able to keep to his revenge after spending time with Lennon? Read to find out!
Thank you so much Valentine PR for this ARC!

4.5 ⭐️ Ahhh this book 🤩 I’m a sucker for a tortured MMC and Maren did not disappoint!
Saint, our tortured MMC, avoids all relationships, even friends. His goals: play hockey through college to get to the NHL, protect his mom from his alcoholic dad, and make enough money to pay the bills. Lennon has everything materially she could ever want: rich family, prestige, free ride to college. But she’s in a golden cage, being ruled by a father that has laid out her whole life for her, including taking away her passion for ice skating. When the two come to face to face on the ice, they initially hate each other (especially when Saint finds out who her dad is). When Saint becomes Lennons fake boyfriend to piss off her dad, they quickly see that their attraction and feelings aren’t “fake”.
I FLEW through this book. I honestly wish it was longer 😂 when he shows up to her house in the rain 😭😭😭 I can’t. Love love love!!!
