I was hooked on this book from day one. I really enjoyed reading this though I'm not sure why. As a friend said it is certainly not told from the most interesting point of view and yet you still have a wonderfully crafted story of how two lives can have life long affects on one another.

As a psychology student I have heard a lot about the Milgram studies; an attempt to understand the reasoning behind German soldiers actions during the Nazi regime. However there is obviously more to it than obedience levels dictated in statistics. This book takes you into their minds but also into the reactions of outsiders looking in; how do we handle such a situation? Referring to them as just evil people is far too simple in my view. But, on the other hand, it is easier to think that way. You cannot justify the Holocaust but understanding the minds of the enforcers is not that easy. It is something that interests me.

The Reader is a very thought provoking, captivating read which handles the subject matter very well. I couldn't stop reading. Literally, I didn't move from the sofa once.
