I liked this Rapunzel retelling, but I kind of wish that there had been a little more focus on the relationship. It felt like there was so much action that the relationship got pushed to the side a little, so then it didn't feel as realistic.

I really love this steampunk fairytale series and while none of them can rival the perfection that was the first book, this third installment is a fun adventure too. It is based on Rapunzel but is a very unique take on it. I liked the change of scenery from the other books and thought the submarine ride was very fun. I did think the ending could have been slightly more climactic but I may have just been reading too fast.

This book can be read as a stand-alone but it is 3rd in a series. You get a little bit of everything in this steam punk novel. Romance, mystery, suspense and the paranormal. The story moves along at a good pace. I love the sweet chemistry between our main characters, Sam and Hazel. Nancy also does a fantastic job at detailed descriptions of each setting, enabling you to really be able to picture the scene in your mind.

I love these steampunk fairytale-inspired stories! It's fun to find the elements of the original fairytale as it's not just a simple re-telling.

I was very interested in Hazel and Sam after the previous two books. In keeping with the series, this is a Rapunzel retelling. Though the fairytale elements were light, I enjoyed it. Hazel's journey across the ocean, as well as her personal journey, was fun and interesting. I did struggle a bit with the book in the middle, as it was rather slow. But the early parts and last quarter or so really worked for me.

Nancy Campbell Allen was a great find for me this year. I'm looking forward to the next book.

I love a good fairy tale retelling and this revamp of Rapunzel is very clever. First of all it's steampunk and includes a Nautilus-style submarine. Additionally, the Mother Gothel character is a rich Romanian count who may or may not be a vampire. Also, I like how the author worked in the element of twins into the main part of the story. I don't think I've seen that with a Rapunzel retelling before.

This is a great steampunk retelling of Rapunzel with a blend of vampirism.

Hazel is a Healer. She gets hired to work with Dr. Sam McGinnis. He specializes in working on humans and automatons (bots). Hazel has always dreamt of a girl that looks like her, except for appearance of hair and eye color.

When the mysterious Count Petrescu comes to Hazel with a story that he's a relation and the girl she dreams about is her twin sister who is slowly going mad, Hazel jumps at the chance to go to Romania to save her sister. Sam and his automaton, Eugene, accompany her.

I love Hazel and Sam's relationship. I love to see it slowly bloom from coworkers admiring/desiring each other, but never expressing, to fun flirtation to actual expression of feelings.
The count is cordial, but always with some dark undertone, is something that Hazel and me as the reader, just don't trust.
Now Eugene is so fun too. He's an automaton but he's programmed to act more human and it just makes him stand out.
