I loved this. A fantastic mix of teen drama and Regency debauchery. Not historically accurate, but it creates a world that feels very real. My first audio book - and this book worked wonderfully when read aloud.

Highly enjoyable and entertaining! Many similarities to Emma (and Clueless). Not strictly “historically authentic” in terms of language and behaviors, but it definitely works in the world it creates. I wish the romantic and friendship plots were a little better balanced and integrated in the first half of the book, but they all come to a satisfying conclusion.

I really wanted to love this book because of 5 star reviews from those I follow. Sadly it fell a bit flat. I’m not normally a regency period reader and I have mixed feelings on Bridgeton. It took a long while for anything to actually happen and I nearly DNF’d a few times. I didn’t connect with the characters and the plot was slow. The main thing that kept me going was the Queer characters and the wonderful narrator! Wouldn’t read again but might pick up Lex’s 2nd novel when released.

Frankly, I was hoping for more of a romp. It’s a well-written, modernized Regacy romance but it is not what I would call “escapist”. I am interested to see what this author does next, though.
