I liked this. IDK how to explain why really.
A pretty damn good short story, the writing style reminded me of Sally Rooney a lot, in a good way. The protagonist felt kind of like a real person, and the writing style really reflected the story and his character.
This did the unlikable main character in a really good way because he wasn't just unlikable, he was an actual person as well, and you can understand and relate to him in a way. The way this was written (in the second person) was really interesting and in my opinion, enhanced the message and the character. I'm pretty sure this is the first thing I have read in the second person and it was an interesting experience.
Overall, I think this isn't for everyone but it's pretty good.

I enjoyed erratic pace and chaotic feel of this story.

"There are many formulas. One year for every year you dated. Two years for every year you dated. It's just a metter of will power: the day you decide it's over, it's over. You never get over it."

I liked the fast paced, chaotic sense of this novella and I also liked that it was written in second person - a very tricky thing to keep up even for only 35 pages of prose.

I’m trying to read more short stories to understand the structure and their impact on the reader. I think this had a very clear plot: cheats on fiancée, gets dumped by said fiancée, regrets, depression, chaotic relationships follow and then alone and tries to write his guide to love. Very simple, yet effective and a motif (relationships) everyone can relate to. However, the main protagonist is not likeable and yet I still felt like I was routing for him to come out of this depression - also, to hear how a man suffers from a break up. Usually, they ‘get on with it’ and they’re fine, this novella shows the brutal honesty. It’s raw and it’s real.

Classist and racist moments bring this book down unfortunately, and he isn’t an author I would read more of - quick and easy read, and definitely provided a new way of structuring that I’ve discovered in short fiction (years).

The half-life of love is forever.

Some reiteration of this quote I've come to expect from the FMC who's about to forgive the scum of the earth MMC for every bit of cruelty cause she lurrrvssss him.

Never the cheater.

My little cheater hating heart is happy. He deserved every bit of his suffering except racism.

Kudos to his fiancé for not taking him back and never even speaking to him. And if he does learn something after reading the book she left behind, he'd atleast be able to keep the next one.

[Not really since he's been a pos since forever (read : This Is How You Lose Her.)]
