A wonderful story with delightful characters and really excellent magic stuff. It reminded me of a kids version of  The Rook, with a secret government agency charged with dealing with magical/supernatural phenomena. I think it would also be a perfect suggestion for any Harry Potter fans. And while I loved all the magic stuff, my favorite part is Amari and her new best friend who is a WEREDRAGON what a delight.

A wonderful, imaginative fantasy filled with adventure and real-life problems in a magical world. The friendships and rivalries were impressively written.

This book was absolutely everything I wanted it to be. The hype surrounding it is completely justified. This book encompass everything I’ve previously loved in middle grade and adds diverse characters and a complex magic system and I truly think this will be the next You know what. I loved the totally unique way the magic school trope was explored in this book and the magic system took creatures and tropes we recognized and made it completely it’s own. And the ending of this book! There was just plot twist after plot twist and I just couldn’t keep up! I even cried at the end which is always the sign of a good book.

Overall I loved this book and I’m actually straight up mad that the next book in this series isn’t out yet so I can’t read it right away. 5 Stars.

a fun time, but not very suspensful ( it was veeeeery easy to guess the 'plot twist')
the writing wasn't very special, and i would've liked more detailed descriptions of the magical world Amari finds herself in
It was very cliché, and the characters didn't really make up for that. they where all so one dimensional and i felt like i didn't get to know them at all througout the course of the book. the only interesting character to me was January and she only had like 4 lines.

HowEVER it was still enjoyable to read and i am curious to see how the author will expand the worldbuilding and magic in the next book :)
