I'd say closer to 3.5 stars, but that's not an option. I hate coming in on the middle of a series, so that may be shading my score somewhat (because it didn't seem like you needed all the backstory, I just like to have it). I thought this was well written, and amusing and I'll have to check out the rest of the series to see what her brothers' stories are. It was one of those rake and heroine fall in love but the major challenge to their relationship seems insurmountable, and it was actually dealt with in what I considered a pretty realistic manner (for a change). So I liked it, and am going to check out some of the others in the series.

I liked this book well enough to get through it, but boy does it reinforce my preference for more recently written romances. Dubious consent does not appeal to me, and glorifying extreme pressure to have sex takes me right out of the story. I didn't really like either of the main characters that much, and I didn't believe their connection.

The series ... just isn't doing it for me. I'm drudging on but that's exactly what it feels like. Drudgery. :(

Enemies to lovers. Stowaway. Potato peeling lessons. I know what you need. Pirates. Storm at sea. Winning over the cutlass wielding chef. Secret messages.
