Third book in this series that I’ve devoured. Because I’m reading all these books through the library I had to read this as an audiobook and learned I’ve been mispronouncing everything 😪. Anyways this was a fun edition to the series but not my favorite. I wish we had spent more time on Thorne and Cress and there was more development with their characters. I think having so many main characters is starting to take away from developing everyone. Anyway still loved this book and now I’m about halfway through Winter!

Six POVs? No problem! My initial concern was that juggling six main characters would lead to a scattered narrative.  However, the author masterfully balanced their storylines, giving each character their due time without sacrificing plot development or pacing. This sets the stage perfectly for the final book, and Winter already sounds like a character I can't wait to learn more about!

4.5 out of 5 stars

Okay now I see where the hype is coming from.

I would have sped through this book a lot sooner if it wasn't for school.

Anyway, this book was AMAZING. Throne is officially my favorite guy in the book. He's so cute and sassy and I can't handle the feels. The plot was so fast-paced and action packed. The politics is rich and engrossing, and I love the science fiction aspects. This book had pretty good plot twists too. And the instalove problem is starting to go away, actually. This was definitely my favorite plot and love story of all three books.

The reason I didn't give it a perfect 5 stars was because of Cress. She is definitely my least favorite of the three main female characters. She seemed a little too dependent to me, and I really did not like her "damsel in distress" attitude. She got better toward the end, but her inability to defend herself throughout the book kind of annoyed me.

Regardless, this was still an amazing sequel and I can't wait for Winter. The sneak peak at her we got was so intriguing.

marissa knows how to write an ENDING… just hit after hit my god. that whole castle mission thing was just top tier entertainment. the last 5 chapters were pure excellence.

that being said… this is my least favorite one so far. and the main culprit is cress and thorne as a romantic pairing. before anyone throws stones at me i just don’t understand how they are the most popular ship in this series bc every other ship is boy obsessed perfection and here comes cress pining over this man like it’s her lifes purpose when he barely gives a fuck about her like ugh it’s so annoying. every time it cut to a scene of them i had to push myself through the second hand embarrassment. i loved thorne in scarlet and when he’s with the others but when he’s with cress he starts to annoy me. they got slightly better towards the end ig? but even then i would like them much more platonically.

other than that this was still lots of fun i love found family shenanigans! i eat it up everytime what can i sayyyyy. cinders character development is very satisfying and im so excited for her in winter THATS PRINCESS. and wolf being a fucking mess this whole book cause scarlet is on luna… he should be in the straight man handbook i love real yearners. anyways terrified for winter if levana isn’t in a black hole by the end ill be pressing charges don’t fuck with my family…
