I was certain I wrote a review of this. Anyway...

In middle school, I read [b:The Darkangel|92717|The Darkangel (Darkangel Trilogy, #1)|Meredith Ann Pierce|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1330303462l/92717._SY75_.jpg|1386324] by [a:Meredith Ann Pierce|22543|Meredith Ann Pierce|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1220137936p2/22543.jpg]. This book is strongly reminiscent of that story line. I LOVED that book and this new series by [a:Ariana Nash|18510938|Ariana Nash|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1539505956p2/18510938.jpg], who I also love, has brought an updated M/M version to life. Absolutely thrilled with the results! It is dark and violent, but not quite as nasty as many in the genre, which I appreciate. This is more of a traditional dark, gothic fantasy written for a more modern audience. Thank you, Ariana!

Epic and vengeful, dark and twisted.

This was beyond what I expected and I knew from the first page I was hooked. The betrayal and heartbreak was gripping and the friendship filled with hatred between Dante and Havok was spectacular.

Havok became one of my favorite characters. I imagined him as a child playing with butterflies and it broke my heart.
As Ariana knows how to play with our feelings to break us. On the one hand we have Dante who has a great fighting spirit but who makes terrible decisions. And on the other hand to Habok The jailor, and between them a beautiful friendship is born until the betrayal arrives and the years pass.
I really liked the world that the author creates and the tension of wanting to know what is happening, there are many mysteries around Havok, and Dante's town, although we only had a small glimpse of what the magic system is, we know that it promises too much .
This book handles a slow burn that makes you want to scream, I need this pair together for yesterday.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange on an honest review.

“Monsters are made not born”
This book was astonishing, I found it impossible to lay out the plot and that’s great because you cannot anticipate what’s going on. I loved it, there is a lot of tension, fear, questioning, treachery, resentment. Havok and Dante are special, they both made the other suffer but there is still this link lingering between them.

Like all Ariana Nash trilogy, I will not talk about the plot of the first book in detail, because it’s a book that needs to be discovered as it’s read. Overall this book was truly amazing, I’m really excited about what’s coming next and I was impressed by the universe, the writing and how complex the characters are.

DNF at around 46%. The plot feels weak and boring and the relationship just feels like it’s going to go in circles, especially with what people have said in other reviews. Just not interested in anything that’s happening.

There are some parts of this that were really fun especially in the first half. But I did not enjoy the flip flopping of Dante and Havok, one second filled with conviction that the other is a monster and then seconds later wanting to trust them. Also, Dante seemed to make too many impossible connections about the plot. I may read the next one but it is not as high on my TBR.

Normally I only read very smutty books, but despite the constant pining and total lack of smut, I loved this book. I can’t wait for the second one to come out.
