One of my all time favorite books. I bought this book in high school and I still love it! A sweet, well-written story. It could fall into the fairy-tale genre, with exaggerated characters, but it's a funread that makes me feel happy the whole time I'm reading.

Psalm 18:19. It’s me as a book. And riotously funny.

I find that I prefer Lucy Maud Montgomery's protagonist Anne Shirley to her protagonist Valancy Stirling. Though both had difficult lives, Anne faced her struggles with optimism and confidence. On the other hand, Valancy was much more pessimistic and lacked confidence in herself at various parts of her story. I would find myself rooting for Anne in her stories and feeling a great deal of frustration with Valancy in hers. I did, however, enjoy Valancy's story when she gained the courage and confidence to make her own life choices rather than trying to live up to her family's expectations of her. I also enjoyed the unfolding of her love story. Overall, despite those times of frustration, The Blue Castle was an interesting read.
