Absolutely spectacular book. I actually lost sleep because I was so into this book. Apocalypse, societal doom, artificial intelligence, racism, fascism, christianity, violence, love, compassion, anal rape, climate change, it's all in there. Mind blown!

That was *decidedly* unsettling, mostly because a good portion of it seemed scarily plausible to me.

I also very much respect that Wendig did not turn this into a series (actually, what I am is surprised his publisher let him do a standalone rather than making him drag it out into a series--kudos to you, o publisher). It's a very long book, but to me it never felt overlong. I read it for long stretches over the course of five days, and I was pretty much always completely transfixed.

I may have more thoughts about this, but for now I need to let them marinate. I have a feeling this book will stick with me in ways most of the other books I've read this year won't. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I actually enjoy long novels so have no complaint about the length. My complaint would be that I did not care for Shana at all as a character. Reading her POV were a struggle but I did enjoy Bengi's and Pete POVs. They were a delight to read. Even the other side characters were pretty intriguing. Shana never grew on me so I obviously I dropped it a star because of her, but overall, it was a interesting read. I look forward to the sequel and recommend it to anyone who like long, end of the world type novels like I do. If not this isn't for you.
