This was such a great mystery! Because I loved this so much I’m going to give it 4.25 stars. The extra 0.75 would’ve been given if not for annoying characters that are there for no reason like Cole. I’m a cruel person, I know. But that’s personal so no hard feelings. I also would’ve given it 5 stars but I don’t think it quite matched up to what Holly Jackson writes and I give all her YA mystery thrillers 5 stars. Still, I really loved this especially because, like Alice, I’m an Agatha Christie fan.
What I also loved about this book even though I saw who the killer was before them, is how it’s not all about the solving the murder. I mean, it kinda is but there’s also the great friendship blooming between Alice and Iris. There’s Alice being neglected by her parents. There’s Iris dealing with her abusive father. And then there’s the poor-rich-friendship situation between them which the two authors make work perfectly. I also love how this just seems like an older and more advanced ‘Murder Most Unladylike’.
Can’t wait to read the next in this series! (who knows? Maybe the next one will be a 5 star)

For YA it’s decent. It has some heavy subjects but addresses them at the end with support suggestions.

This was a great read. Mostly lighthearted, although with some heavier themes (see content warnings below). I found the characters to act and think believably like teenagers, flawed yet also doing their best to get by. There are a lot of moral and legal gray zone activities which I found entertaining. Some interesting commentary on class and the social justice system. Loved the Agatha Christie references throughout. I read this in just over a day, very bingeable! Would recommend. I look forward to picking up the sequel!
