I thought the stories were really nice, though I wasn't a huge fan of the Tom Bombadil parts because I'm just not a fan of poetry at all. Also the synopsis here on GR talks about a story called Roverandom which wasn't in my copy so that was a bit of a shame...
I was a bit disappointed in this collection. Maybe Tolkien is losing his magic for me or maybe I just can’t find it outside of his Hobbit novel.
Outlining Tolkien's foray into the world of Faerie, "Tales from the Perilous Realm" is a collection of his five independent works..The stories and poems explore new fantastical realms and time periods, other than the ingeniously portrayed realm of Middle Earth from his better known works..
But these stories are a far cry from the traditional fairy stories with fairy god-mothers, witches, princes and damsels in distress..There is more than meets the eye in Tolkien's Faerie..One might come upon a wizard or fly over the edge of the world to meet the Man-in-the-Moon or swim with mer-people living in the sea..There are dragons and giants living on the outskirts of the towns, where even knights fear to tread..Then there is the much beloved character, Tom Bombadil, going about his business in the Middle Earth..
Readers already acquainted with the Hobbit and the LOTR will find parallels between these tales and those of his fantastical mythology of Middle Earth..[b:Farmer Giles of Ham|2333|Farmer Giles of Ham |J.R.R. With tales like [b:Roverandom|23617|Roverandom|J.R.R. Tolkien|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1374681558s/23617.jpg|2964446], [b:Smith of Wooton Major|28433706|Smith of Wooton Major|J.R.R. The tales seemingly happen in different lands and different epochs..but their origins lie in the Perilous Realm, abounding with fantastical beasts, creatures and unlooked for adventures (if one isn't careful)..These tales together with Tolkien's comprehensive essay, "On Fairy Stories", exhibit his unrivaled ability in conjuring up magical realms with adventures galore..Hence, a must-read for all Tolkien fans!! :)

There are multiple stories and only the one about the puppy fairy, Roverandom was any good. I kept losing track of the threads of other stories. It was not my favourite and I do kot recommend.
