I like Ursula Vernon. It was fun to see where she got her start. This particular book is extremely heavy but lots of fun.

Yes, it starts a little slow, but when you get to the myth backstory, you won't be able to stop! Quite an accomplishment for a story about a wombat.

The matriarchal society of the hyenas is particularly fascinating, not just for the fact that it's run by women, but because of their myths. Even more compelling is the story of Ed. When you finally get it, you'll need to take a minute to think, because it hits hard.

Connected to the hyena's female-led society, I'd like to find out when we discover that Digger is herself a female, since I didn't find out until I was reading a wikipedia article! It's never important. Digger has no romantic interests, and you get the feeling that's not just because there's no other wombats around. She's got things to do and she's going to do them and only after is she going to enjoy herself.

The webcomic itself is free online, but this print version gets you a LOT of extra text material, and even an extra comic story. A great deal, I'd say.

I really liked it! Digger is a fantastic character, the story was fun to follow, she had many friends and the ending was heartwarming (and a bit tragic). The moralizations were light but the attempts to teach good and bad to Shadowchild were deep and hilarious. I read the first part of this online to see if I wanted to vote for it for a book club read and....couldn't stop. I guess I am voting for it now. I am also going to buy it and give it to my 9 year old.

4.5 stars mostly because the book is an unwieldy 800 pages and therefore difficult to read with a cat on my lap. Otherwise a charming tale with excellent woodcut-like black and white drawings.

Digger is high on my list of favorite comics, books, and art. It's full of fantastically hilarious lines, but also scenes that leave me bawling, even though I've read, and reread this series several times. (The comic is still online - diggercomic.com - and is always great for rereading, plus, you get the comment section, which is one of the few times where I say that you SHOULD read the comments.

Digger is always a favorite read of mine when I'm going through stressful times, or just need a good story. Great characters, the story's top notch, and the artwork is just amazing.

Thank you, Ursula, for Digger and the rest of the cast of characters. (I was so glad to be in the audience when Digger won the Hugo for Best Graphic Story. One of the highlights of that WorldCon for me!)

Hilarious, fascinating, rich, deep, and full of mythology and world building, and all the good stuff, centering around a wonderful character that just happens to be a wombat.

Okay this is the story of a no nonsense wombat trapped in a nonsensical world, tasked with making it right. This is a graphic novel and the whole thing was simply beautiful. I want more! I want to know what happened when Digger got home! I want to know what adventures she had on her way! I want to know what happened to the Hag and the hyenas and Boneclaw Mother and...and...and...I will always, always, always miss Ed.

I don't really read comics, let alone webcomics, so I don't have a frame of reference for comparison. But I really enjoyed it. Good fun. A great cast of brave characters inching along the edges of destiny (some of them very begrudgingly) and doing what needs to be done.
