Fast read, interesting stories. I like how the author chose to focus on more “vintage” lady serial killers (as she put it) and represented ones from all over the globe.

I expected a lot more out of Lady Killers. I love a good true crime story and even more so, love me some good ole feminism. But, I felt this collection lacking focus and scholarship.
While the language was approachable and easy to read, the author's background as a Buzzfeed/Jezebel/etc. author was apparent. I felt like the stories were dumbed down and truncated in order to keep an internet reader interested. The research seemed minimal at best, mostly regurgitated headlines from newspapers of the past.
The focus was also unclear. Towards the end the author indicates that she chose women from the distant past, but I think it would have benefitted from a modern case study. The "deadly women throughout history" subtitle should have been something more along the lines of "women who poisoned people pre-20th century". This collection is by no means exhaustive, and I understand that it wasn't intended to be as much, but a little more curatorial focus would have really improved the overall collection.

“I wonder if female serial killers haven’t been studied extensively because at the end of the day, in our heart of hearts, we don’t consider them worthy antagonists.”
This was actually the first time i learned about the stories of: Erzsébet Báthory, Nannie Doss, Lizzie Halliday, Elizabeth Ridgeway, Raya & Sakina, Mary Ann Cotton, Darya Nikolayevna Saltykova, Anna Marie Hahn, OumElHassen, Tillie Klimek, Alice Kyteler, Kate Bender, The Angel Makers of Nagyrév and MarieMadeleine the Marquise
