This book was pretty good!! Not really my sense of humor, but the content, facts, and concepts were awesome. I took tons of notes and many are super practical. Also, I think it happens to be national stress month this month or something? Coincidental, but kinda cool lol

I found this book extremely helpful -- the combination of personal stories, relation to brain function and specific suggestions on how to short circuit specific behaviors really works for me.

This allowed me to view stress as a modifiable factor rather than an inevitable state and it’s quite a helpful way to view things. I however could not stand the way he always set himself up as the standard. “I handle stress so well, everyone says that, that’s just who I am, great that I never really stress woohoo!”. I mean really, why would we want fo read that. Hence the 1 star and my lack of desire to finish this.

Light and fun read about stress management with touches of personal memoir. The author uses some simplified explanations of how our brain works under stress, as the  “bears vs traffic” argument. I got the analogy, but sometimes traffic is not as harmless as he describes (I think he never had to drive during a snowstorm or freezing rain conditions). I had fun, it is humorous and not intended to be an in-depth guide to fight depression or anxiety.

I think I just read this because I liked the cover and it was short so I was able to get through it quickly. The advice is rather general and shallow (not necessarily wrong and can be good to be reminded of) but it felt like the author was trying too hard to be “quirky” (he’s a comedian which he constantly reminds the readers about). It also felt like he was just trying to brag about his wife and kid in a way that was like “hah! Gotcha!” because someone once claimed he wasn’t stressed because he doesn’t have kids. The latter chapters REALLY lost me, seemed like he ran out of things to talk about so he rambled about a random thing his family likes to do that makes them happy?
