Lady's Knight is a riot of fun! Kaufman and Spooner write spunky characters with loads of heart and bravery.
I really enjoyed listening to this story. It reminded me a bit of a Knights Tale, but with spunky fmcs slaying the night in a legendary-esque medieval Europe. If you're looking for a My Lady Jane fix, this one is for you; featuring queer girls who fall in love, a secret identity, jousting matches, and a fire breathing dragon.

Lots of grim reminders of how women are treated as property not people. I was hoping for a more lighthearted story.

“Why are you so frightened when we go searching for the edges of the cages you put us in ?”
Lady’s Knight was a fun and entertaining YA read. I loved the dichotomy, the whole book dancing around an immersive medieval setting and a lot of anachronisms, especially in language. It added some fun and dynamism and I truly enjoyed it. I laughed out loud more than once while reading, which isn’t something very frequent for me, and I adored the narrator’s interventions, crashing up the fourth wall. All of this made the book super lively.
The epic side was super fun, as much as the feminist discourse. Even though the world isn’t queer normative, representations abound. The world is also pretty mysogynistic: women who talk/live for themselves are condemned right away, but that doesn’t prevent them from trying to empower their lives. In the end, the book is full of “girl power” —not always subtle— and that’s truly the kind of story I would have loved to read as a teen, as it’s super fun. I can’t wait for book 2!

This was a fun read. It felt like if a combination of A Knight's Tale and She's the Man with a queer twist and the audiobook made it even better. I loved the notes from the narrator.

If I can convince any person, girl, woman of any age to read just one book, it would be this one!
This book was breath-taking, hilarious, quirky, beautifully written and so powerful.
It’s a witty coming of age novel about two very different girls working together and falling in love, they also figure out who they are separately and together, along the way.
Gwen is a blacksmiths daughter and has always wanted to be a knight, Isobelle doesn’t want to be trapped in marriage to the winner of a jousting tournament, so they hatch a plan to work together to get what they both want.
The sisterhood was absolutely everything, watching all the different women come together and help each other, literally had me sobbing with how powerful and beautiful it was.
The romance between Isobelle and Gwen was so refreshing, real and raw, from hidden glances to secret kisses, it was such a delight to see the girls come into their feelings.
‘If someone kisses me, I want it to be because they want to. Because they need to.’
‘I want it to be because they can’t take another second wondering, dreaming about what it would be like’
I know we are getting a book two with Gwen and Isobelle but I’d love the other girls to get their own books! Especially Olivia and Sylvia!
Madam Dupont is a dance instructor with more skills than you would think, she helps train Gwen and she was one of my favourite characters… ‘I work here to strengthen the wills and spines of these young women - not necessarily to carry a sword, but to hold up under the blows and cuts the world wishes to inflict upon them.’
Gwen’s dad was also great, he had me sobbing with my daddy issues wishing that every girl could have a dad just like him.
I can’t wait to see all my favourite characters in book two and see what chaos they cause, or stumble into next!
Please everyone pick up this book, I can’t recommend it enough

Gwen is a blacksmith who learned her craft from her father. When she meets Lady Isobelle at the market, she realizes that there is more to the Lady than she expected. Gwen only wants to enter the tournament, but when Isobelle finds out her hand in marriage (and her fortune) is the prize for the winner, she asks Gwen to be her champion. This was a great read that gives Cinderella is dead vibes. IYKYK.
