this was fun! it didn't have super deep substance, but i wasn't really expecting that going in, and it was a solidly fun and enjoyable gay medieval romp.
i liked the little 'narrator' inserts, generally enjoyed the main characters, and their relationship was cute and fairly well-paced. the book was also pretty funny.
the world was also fun, although i found it a little random where historical accuracy was (sort of?) applied and where it was (mostly) discarded. loosely period-typical misogyny, but other types of bigotry seemed much less existent, mentioning that the word 'chemistry' wouldn't exist yet whilst using constant modern slang... nothing de facto wrong with any of it, and i wasn't expecting historical accuracy, it just felt a little random and also like... they could've so easily made this a whole different universe loosely based on medieval England rather than actually setting it in medieval England, which made the inaccuracy a little jarring. that is me nit-picking, though, because i did find it fun, and there's nothing wrong with historical AUs!
not completely sure how much a sequel will hold up if it's still mainly about Isobelle and Gwen, but i'd definitely be up for reading it once it comes out, and hoping to learn more about Olivia (especially) and other characters, like Sylvie.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant! Take A Knight's Tale, sprinkle in draconic fervour, and throw in some gender role subversion on a grand scale. Brilliant.

This book was a very cute sapphic woman e with a nice feminist story and message. The rpose is a little immature, sometimes too tongue and cheek for it's own good, but it is a YA book, so maybe that's to be expected! Overall, I did enjoy it and would read other stories in this universe.
