hurt/comfort trope so good and addictive that i didn't even mind the dead ex trope and how ruby had to have like 5 cardiac events in front of charlie before he started putting the pieces together. i did like how ruby's condition wasnt just miraculously resolved in the end so she and charlie could live a guaranteed happily ever after. i liked the slight angst of knowing that while there is still a very real chance that ruby's heart could give out on her again, she loves charlie enough to keep living life in her fullest sunshine self, and charlie loves her enough to fight for her and care for her despite the possibility of reliving the trauma of losing a loved one. bonus points for the disability/chronic illness rep and how resurrection is portrayed bc this is the first time ive read a small town romance where, with the exception of runaway ranch (which actually sounds beautiful), the town is very full of soul and character but in a sense that it's a very lowkey (just a teeny tiny bit) dark and dangerous shithole rich with wild wild west history rather than a picturesque, sunny and perfect little place to runaway to for the fmc. sticking someone as sunshine-y as ruby in a town full of broody hardened badass cowboys and girls is actually such a smart move that made her character more endearing to me.
to sum things up, this book was very much like a nice tasty little snack that i had forgotten how much i loved until i ate it again bc it reminded me of why exactly hurt/comfort is my shit. solid 4 stars.

Runaway Ranch Ran away With my heart
They have instant chemistry but they both fight it. I love that Ruby adds to the story of Runaway Ranch without even knowing it. The idea of looking for a sunflower in each day is something that will stick with me for a long time - I absolutely love it. This book is heartbreaking in how well emotions are conveyed and the trials Charlie and Ruby go through. Read if you need your emotions regulated!

Grumpy cowboy on a Montana ranch meets sunshine girl with a chronic heart condition trying to live her life free from the restrictions and stress of her family. It was good but the middle really dragged and became repetitive. The suspense part was kinda meh too. Still going to continue with the series though because I love a good cowboy romance and there are three other brothers. 3.75 ✨
