Tame the Heart

i never wanna leave my cowboy era

this book was SO freaking precious (TY monica for the rec) and i won't even lie i almost cried so many times over it. ruby and charlie are my favorite kind of book couple with the whole "just for the summer. promise you won't fall in love with me." thing that we all know never ends the way they want it to.

the way charlie cared so much ab ruby and did everything he could to keep her safe and help her finish her bucket list and SHOW her how much she's loved made my heart swell.

the bonus epilogue with charlie's sister in law being a surrogate for charlie and ruby.. sobbing.
(i also need fallon and wyatt's book more than i need air to breathe)

This was a very sweet, wholesome, small town, yeehaw romance and a great start to a series. I love an honest to goodness grumpy x sunshine moment, almost as much as I love following along with the brothers that will inevitably be telling their story throughout said series. The way the Montgomery family is together makes you laugh and ache to be a part of it.

Some of the inner monologuing got rather repetitive (even if it was disgustingly sweet gushing about the other character), and the big secret that was held until the near-end felt like it should've been talked about WAY earlier. When the leading pair are mature adults, basic communication should be standard (especially about something so serious) in my opinion. There were times when I wanted to shake Ruby and yell at Charlie for being so blind to what was going on.

Even so, I did really enjoy both character's personalities, Charlie is a top tier caring cowboy, and I am excited to return to the town of Resurrection for the rest of the Montgomery Boys.

Cowboy romance, sign me up. This was my first by this author and it was beautifully done. I gravitate towards romance that isn’t so fit and dry and people have “real people” problems, so this one really caught my eye. I adored the grumpy sunshine aspect but more so I loved the trauma Charlie had overcome, and that his brothers stepped in without hesitation to follow him and help create runaway ranch and turn it into the haven it has become. I also really loved Ruby leaving home to “live” despite her lifetime of being held back because of her heart condition. The obstacles she goes through just trying to live out her life are heart wrenching because you just cheer for her and getting to live her best life. A lot happens in this book but I love the town vibes and the people there and what they’ve created.

I think, though, it could have been resolved a lot sooner than it did and having it as long as it did jaded my opinion of it. Beautifully done and so excited for the rest of the series (especially Davis), just could have been at least 10% shorter.

Ruby truly pom at the end of the book bc why are you being so reckless with your life? Like literally the last 5-6 chapters of the book could’ve been avoided. No notes on Cowboy Charlie 10/10 but Ruby really was testing me. Definitely could’ve been 100 pages shorter lol.
