It was boring. It felt too long like it was dragging on. I honestly just found it disappointing and didn’t want to finish it.
slow-paced
Another DNF. 38%. I was trying to power thru just to finish the series and be done with it, but holy hell this is 90% exposition. I’ve been skimming paragraphs and reading just the dialogue for awhile not and somehow this is STILL going. When events that were teased as being the finale shows up before the halfway point, I was convinced my time with Lou & Reid was over. It can’t do this anymore.
Funnily enough, Beau was to Serpent & Dove what Nikolai was to Shadow & Bone. But even he wasn’t enough to keep me engaged.

If you loved S&D but wanted to DNF B&H (same)….please keep going because this was SO GOOD.

I am rounding the review up from 3.5 stars. I loved Serpent & Dove, and like many readers of the series I was disappointed by Blood & Honey and was looking for redemption with this book. I love Shelby as an author but my issues I feel are more with the publisher and whoever decided that this needed to be a trilogy. The last two books came out fairly quickly and I would rather have waited longer for a better end result. I did get more closure with Gods & Monsters, however most of the book seemed to drag out unnecessarily. I knew Lou and Reid would need to reconnect somehow, but I wish they reconnected more emotionally rather than physically. I also struggled with the series in general and remembering what happened in previous books. A lot of smaller characters were not as memorable for me. I found myself rereading lots of passages just to understand. I was hoping for more in the final installment but at least the epilogue left us on a positive note.
