Slightly disappointed with this final installment. I felt like it was two separate books, and it could have been 100 pages shorter. It dragged, but also felt rushed in all the wrong parts.

This book was a rollercoaster!
I was so anxious and scared for my babys...

I may have skipped it a little bit at the end, but it was all over the place and I wanted to know the ending :')

Any ways, Beau is officially my favorite character! I just love him. He's so adorable and goofy, I can't T-T

Also I literally cried every time Ansel is mentioned, especially the ending. He deserved so much! I can't stand the fact that he had to move on while watching them all ;-;

Damn, that was a great series. Loved every part of it <3

I felt like once I started reading, I couldn't stop until I finished. The story Mahurin tells is enthralling, fast paced, and once you get invested there's no turning back. That being said, there were some parts I loved, and others that I felt were confusing or rushed.

There will be some spoilers below, since this is the last book in the trilogy, so reader beware!

There were some things in this book I found confusing, so I'll probably have to do a re-read at some point. I'll start with some things I didn't like.

When Lou was possessed, I didn't like how Reid didn't catch on quickly. I was confused at Nicolina's history, her character, and the whole 'mice' thing. I felt it wasn't super fleshed out, or maybe I just missed something?

I felt the last battle scene was confusing. So much was happening, so many people were killed, and it didn't really make sense that the chasseurs suddenly had a change of heart. Like, they just all unanimously voted to burn Reid's mom at the stake but mid battle they side with Reid cause he was helping save civilians? We have 2.5 books of content that says chasseurs don't care how good you are- a witch is burned regardless. I think I would've felt better if we saw literally any of these people have a conflict of interest or second guess what they are being told. But we didn't get that. Instead we get a single line from the king about hearing murmurs about how maybe all witches aren't bad.. but we, as the reader, never see ANY person or chasseur actually have a conflict of morality. Only 1, and no one ever sided with him. It just didn't make sense.

I didn't like how Claud fell into the earth. What did that mean? What happened to him? I loved his character, he was a god! He liked Lou enough to intervene, even if accidentally, but we never find out what happened to him.

I didn't like the epilogue being from Ansel's pov. I liked seeing the characters get settled with each other, but having spirit Ansel just observing and narrating was.. weird. And did we ever find out who that lady with the always unrecognizable face was? Was she supposed to be Claud?

Despite this being the final book, there were too many lose ends left to make this a higher rated book.

Now on to what I did like, since I want to end on a high!

I love Reid and Lou's romance. Literally one of the best things I've read in forever. And the whole memory loss/ re learning how to love? ahh, I love this type of trope, especailly when they get their memories back in the end <3 <3 <3

The added character of Celie was a surprising twist, but I LOVED it. I loved her. She was prim and proper, and so so sick of being helpless that she showed her claws. I loved how she bonded with Lou and Coco, they formed their own girl group by happenstance and it was perfect.

I do like how it ended- all main characters moving towards their happily ever after. Beau taking over the thrown, Coco the blood witches, Lou as the divine leader of the white witches, and peace. It may have ended a bit messily and slightly confusing, but the story ended on a high.
