In terms of plot, not a lot going on here. But the language was indulgent, and the tension was constantly palpable. A twisted beach read.

very readable, i read it within a day which is a lot faster than i expected, and it has a really good summer feel to it despite it not being lighthearted. reminded me sometimes of pretty woman and sometimes of the end of the fucking world, both of which i love. i don't love
that she used a 17 year old like that
and im confused by the ending

I wasn’t a fan of The Girls so I was surprised by how much I liked the prose style in this one. Basically Cheever’s The Swimmer, but I enjoyed it! Some realllllllly good gross details (the dog “studded with ticks”; a man with a “lush beard of acne”; another with “a smeary face, peppery blackheads”; “gaudy”, “tight” pimples that “suddenly erupt”) that are basically metonyms for Alex herself.

Really dark and very stressful read. Always a fan of Emma Cline though. Sorf of book you want to take a shower after reading.

Hated this book. Absurd plot holes and throw-away ending. Normalized statutory rape so not worth commenting on further. Will not read another book by this author.

anxiety in book form if I must be honest. sometimes in a good way but more so not. I did read this really fast tho bc I just could not put it down lol. honestly, it was almost solid until the ending. the ending sucked. if you want delusional girl grasping at straws and making some really questionable decisions this will be fun for you.. until the ending.
