Enjoyable read about a time period in history I didn’t know much about. I found the sisters to be inspiring and enjoyed learning about their lives. I wish there had been a greater focus on their political contributions. I felt as if too much time was spent describing their childhood and relationship woes. No matter my complaints about the book, the true story of these women and their impact is inspirational.

Good book. Loved learning about the DR history. But be warned, in the audiobook version you can hear the narrators swallow between sentences and it’s very distracting (and gross).

I really enjoyed this book and think it struck a great balance between showing everyday life and the realities of resistance under a violent regime full of state sanctioned violence. The relationship between the sisters felt beautiful and authentic, and all of the character dynamics, particularly the parent relationships, were thoughtfully fleshed out. You can tell a lot of care went into writing this. My only critique is that I wished for more detail in some of the major events, at times, the recollections fell a bit flat compared to what a fuller depiction could have conveyed. Still, this was a moving read.
