The art. The writing. The colors. It’s all INCREDIBLE! Every page is stunning, and the two main storylines are equally entertaining. G Willow Wilson is truly an icon!

For fans of: beautiful art, misfit bands of heroes, fantasy realm.
Not for those who dislike: fantasy gore/violence, comics.

Interesting and unique story. Outside of the flashback which I thought was unneeded at the end, really great start to this story.

Art is 5 stars. Holy crow, amazing fluid movement with stunning color. Immediately followed the artist on social media.

A great book, must pick up for fantasy fans.

In a dying world, orcs and humans continue to fight over farmland as it gets harder to find good land. But then the Vangol arrive from across the sea threatening them all. Now the orcs and the humans have made a tenuous alliance to try to fight the Vangol together, sealed with the agreement that an orc healer will join a group of fighters. But the fighters find that the Vangol are coming from unexpected directions. They must find how the Vangol are able to move around so quickly before they are surrounded and defeated. Meanwhile, not all the orcs are behind the peace alliance. Will there be enough people fighting the Vangols or is all hope lost?

This was an excellent epic fantasy graphic novel. The world-building is excellent, and the characters are relatable. They’ve done an excellent job setting the stakes, hinting at bigger mysteries, and creating all the personal connections too. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

"We can write new songs. But can we write new destinies?"

It's humans and orcs, traditionally mortal enemies, building a shaky alliance to hold back an invasion by a mysterious mutual enemy! It's a parable about overusing natural resources to the point of mutually assured starvation! It shows characters making relatable mistakes and flirting with one another like delightful dorks! And it's written by G. Willow Wilson, who has shown in Ms. Marvel, Invisible Kingdom, and Poison Ivy that she's maybe the best person currently telling these kinds of thoughtful comics stories! Volume 1 inevitably feels like a bit of a table-setting prelude, but I'm terribly excited to see where it goes!

I enjoyed this first volume and can’t wait to see where things go. Unlikely allies having to work together facing a challenge bigger than anyone expects is a great premise for a series. The characters are interesting and I’m enjoying exploring this world.
