lmtk113's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH

It felt like I was reading a book and not reading a story.  Chapters felt too long and filled with fluff

let me tell you i didn’t have particularly great expectations for this novel. i’d read a tale of two cities last summer and though it was well written, i thought it long and uneventful.

however this has changed my opinion on dickens. though dense and long it was wholly engrossing with an incredibly engaging narrative voice and such interesting plot. it justified the novel’s length and for that i am glad.

this must have been the victorian netflix because i would’ve been so excited to read another chapter of this every week.

I was pleasantly surprised: having read multiple times that Dickens is as boring as it gets, I had prepared for the worst. Turned out to be a pleasant read.

The last quarter of the book was so exciting I couldn't put it down. I can see why there is some difference of opinion about the ending and agree the original ending is the better. What a thrilling, touching, funny story with scores of vivid characters, even minor ones, brought to life.

adventurous inspiring medium-paced

The story of Pip and his great expectations of going from a poor boy to a gentleman, spurned by his love for the cold-hearted Estella. There were so many surprising twists and turns that I genuinely never saw coming, but were wonderfully crafted into the story. It was emotional at some points and hilarious in others. The class commentary was a pleasant surprise for me and the ending was beautifully done!

I had to read this for an English class.
