oh man. this was such a tough read for me. at times i felt like 'great expectations' is one of the most relatable and brilliant pieces of writing, at other (sadly proportionally greater) times, this is probably one of the dullest books i've ever come across, one that i definitely wouldn't reread again.
A wonderfully captivating and touching story. There is a reason that 'Great Expectations' is a classic read. Highly recommend for anyone interested in Victorian literature OR trying to get up to speed on their 'must reads' list.

Read for an English uni paper: Enjoyed it more than I expected to. I like pip as a main character and all the characters where interesting. After the twist I was kind of over the book... Honestly maybe my fault for taking so long to finish reading it.
The edition I read contained both the original and the altered ending (apparently Dickens changed the ending before publication). I personally didn't have a preference for one ending over the other, although the original ending does fit the tone of the story better. I always enjoy Dickens' use of language and his sardonic wit, even if the story is a little slow at times.

So similar to david copperfield. Two competing love interests, coming of age story, lovable and faithful friend. Departs in some striking ways tho like how pip doesn't end up with biddy
Some scenes were so sweet and moving. Like comparing the toast bites or the aged parent! The characters are all so memorable, and the plot really good. I consumed the last part of the book like it was a thriller! Really good messaging too on the value of gentleman culture or rich society versus pure heart
