Picked it up based on a recommendation and didn't think I would like it but got invested in the story very quickly and can't wait to read the next ones! His writing is captivating but generally easy to follow and you can really tell that the author has done his research. Ngl at some points I got a bit confused with certain names but it wasn't too much of a problem overall.

Bekter is a bastard, Eeluk is a bastard, Wen Chao, Temujin is a bastard but also the protagonist so we’ll let it slide for now. Hoelun is the greatest. 8/10.

This was a really good story that kept you gripped almost the entire time and makes you want to leap to the next book in the series. There is a good balance of action with other events so it doesn't feel like it's too violence-centered. The book also does a good job at describing the setting of this foreign place in a different time period, and the depth of research is clear from the descriptions and events. It also seems that it does not deviate greatly from the original source of the story, so it is somewhat vaguely educational.
