This is my favorite book of the year so far. I could not put this down. An absolute work of art, and I learned so much about Korea, Korean culture, and Japan's occupation of Korea. If everyone would read this book, I think we would be in a completely different climate, politcally. What an incredible, special, testament to the author's family. I loved this.

Easy to read, insightful to the time period & struggles of the MC. I was able to relate to certain themes & felt empathy.

More character development could have helped, in order to feel more connected to the story. However, I did find certain characters lovable.

Ending felt abrupt & unresolved for me. Author's note that her grandmother never really felt comfortable sharing her 'secrets' and hesitated to share her story at all, left me feeling like I violated the MC by reading it.
