It was fine. To be honest I can’t tell if I didn’t like it as much bc I read it throughout the course of a couple months and never got into it or if I took so long to finish it because I didn’t like it as much?
Interesting bits but not fully memorable

Incredibly helpful book, especially as I look towards a busy new year of full time work and full time MA studies, Newport proposes practical ways to train yourself to work deeply, while also providing explanations as to why it is important and case studies of what it might look like. Will be going back to take notes on particular concepts

Read at recommendation of professor. It's fine. I think it's very if it's time (2016) before the world lost its cool. The idea of unplugging is great and romantic but for most not reasonable. Certainly I appreciate the idea of deep work. I will say I walked away from this book feeling I've made some decent decisions in the direction of chosing to be more offline. And I agree that deep work should be the goal in the "knowledge economy" but unfortunately in 2025 the realistic chances of it for most is slim. I think I've reached what he describes as a state of deep work and I'd like to hope I can find my way back again.
