I didn't care for this book as much as I did the first one. this may just be because I am not a fan of books in the middle of a series. I found there to be a very irritating character I'm not exactly sure why but I just didn't care for her and her choices. there was so much potential in so many scenes where she could have developed as a person and as a character in my opinion. such as in the beginning when she starts to feel herself going to this other way and during Shades death. not only that but I found it very predictable. A death, yes, a pregnancy, yes, but I didn't exactly see that ending. I wish that instead of killing off shade she would kill off maybe Kilorn or Bree or Tramy or another one of her brothers that wasn't really there to help move the story forward. I am going to be honest the thing at the end of the story with Maven really just a little going. Mara was just very irritating and I didn't care for her decisions and she could have just been a better character. the writing was not the best. there was a lot of room for good writing and good character development, but I didn't see it. at this point in the series I care for both Cal and Maven equally but that is just me and my preferences. I feel for Maven because of the way Mare showed off Elara's head and just how irritating he is. I think that he is right to do that to Mare. He was really hurt. and I think Mare is becoming a heartless person. I will keep reading this series and Victoria ' s books, this one just wasn't my favorite.

I read a lot of reviews after reading this, currently I'm reading kings cage and it's safe to say. That Glass Sword is the "worst" book in the series, so far at least. I haven't read war storm yet. But RQ was so amazing it pulled me in and then GS continued and I did like the plot and loved meeting all the new characters but besides that it wasn't that good. I don't have the strongest opinion like some of the people in these reviews do but, for people who are team maven this is the worst book. Kings Cage is exactly what you need if you love Maven.

Another fantastic book that I raced through. Didn't like it quite as much as the first because it was so dominated by war. But an excellent plot and fantastic moral quandaries.

4 ⭐️ - This was MUCH more intense than the first two books (RQ and CC). I genuinely got choked up a few times reading the second half - so many moments of absolute heartbreak. Warfare, death/loss, politics, murder, torture, infanticide/violence towards children. It was a very emotionally heavy read.

My only complaints are minor.

One - there was almost zero “relaxation” in this book - the entire book had me on edge, and I would have greatly appreciated a few moments of tenderness or “filler” plot, just so I could catch my breath.

Two - the last chapter had a few typos and strange word choices that sounded made up (after a quick Google search, they ARE actual words, but they seemed goofy or in poor choice). It made the end of the book seem rushed or like an afterthought.

But overall - I am VERY intrigued by this series and will absolutey continue the series.
