I haven't reread this series since I was a kid but revisiting them has been so delightful. Ramona Quimby is a literary icon. ❤️

Another Ramona book I apparently missed as a child. Mini-Me was sorry to see this one end. I’m both amazed and thrilled at how spot-on Beverly Cleary is at depicting life as a kid, even so many years after the books were written. Mini-Me recognized herself more than once. A true reminder that no matter how many things change, some things will always be the same.

This was a Newbery Honor book for bingo. We had read all the other Ramona books when a Reid was about three and while he enjoyed them he only remembered pieces. I felt like as a first grader now he could relate more. We listened to it on audio and I while am not a super big fan of stockard channing’s stuffy nosed reading voice but it was still enjoyable. This one is SHORT but it is a cute story and I like the way it treats things like money problems, family arguments, embarrassment etc. It definitely shows it’s age (Reid was confounded that she would be so excited by a new plain pink eraser) but I think it still deserves its place as a children’s classic.

This is such a great classic. Everything that I remember about the Ramona books happens in this one. It's also the one where her dad goes back to school, so we could really relate. And the one where their mom serves tongue. Groosssssssss.

I chose this book for the 2017 PopSugar Ultimate Reading Challenge prompt "a book that you loved as a child" and also used it for the 2017 BookRiot Read Harder prompt "read a book you've read before." Ramona Quimby was one of the characters that I loved most as a child, so I was excited to revisit this series as an adult and absolutely loved every minute of reading this book! The edition I read included a preface by Amy Pohler and an interview with [a:Beverly Cleary|403|Beverly Cleary|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1197935108p2/403.jpg] at the end--both of which made the re-read even more enjoyable.

I can see why Ramona appealed to me so much as a kid--she was in her own head a lot more than I recalled, a bit of a worrier, and just wanted to be left alone to enjoy some Sustained Silent Reading time. This surprised me a bit because I remembered Ramona as a slightly more mischievous character and thought I would've connected more with her big sister, Beezus. While the book is geared towards a young reader, it held up for me as an adult reader and made me want to re-read the entire series. The book expertly captured the thoughts and concerns of an 8-year old by placing Ramona in situations that an 8-year old reader can easily relate to, and shows a young reader that those sorts of feelings are normal. The Ramona Quimby series is one of the reasons I became a life-long reader and am so happy I got a chance to revisit it thanks to these challenges. Now, excuse me while I enjoy some more Sustained Silent Reading time :)
