I am between a strong 3.5 or a 4✨

I get the hype. I really get why this book is so loved. I think this is one of the first times that I have read a book that I really struggled with liking the main character. Nora infuriated me. But at the same time, I don’t need to love the main character to love the book. Nora had her flaws but the issues and struggles that she was dealing with all came out, it was comforting. AND I LOVE THAT THERE WAS NOT A THIRD ACT BREAKUP! I think this book shows an accurate representation of growth and what it is like to react to grief and to react to change.

After reading this I can really understand how this is a fan favourite in the booktok community. With plenty of bookish references and centered around lead characters who live deep within the publishing world as an agent and an author, it’s a bit cheesy and full of tropes but still a great romance nonetheless.

It has some classic tropes such as enemies to lovers (this is a label the author assigns but I’d argue they’re more acquaintance to lovers) as well as small town and big city romancing.

I really connected with Nora , as someone who is a complete workaholic but always feels the need to protect others first such as their sibling , but I’m glad that despite these things she still got her happy ending.

Overall it’s a great book, incredibly well written and I really have no complaints about it - the only reason it wasn’t rated higher was because it simply wasn’t a fave, as much as I love romance I prefer a little more world building and a little more magic/fantasy or academia.

I really enjoyed Beach Read, so I was expecting to like this one too especially because I love books about books. This fell really flat for me. I found a lot of the dialogue and physical intimacy in the main relationship to be super cringey and lack depth. There is surprisingly little plot and the ending didn’t do it for me. This had potential, but unfortunately it will not become my new Emily Henry favorite.
